Colombini ‘molto soddisfatto’ with new automated storage and sortation system!
In the beginning of 2007 Colombini Industria Mobili (San Marino, Italy) took over the new automated storage and sortation system for their furniture production. The order for this project was signed in May 2005.
Gruppo Colombini manufactures and distributes furniture for offices, kitchens and bedrooms. Colombini is currently expanding their selling area from Italy to Europe and the Far East. To cope with the increase in sales, they are investing in buildings, production capacity and logistics. With this project, Colombini increased its storage and shipping power for finished products and automated the retrieval, storage and delivery of semi-finished products to furniture production lines.
Vanderlande Industries supplied a new rack-supported building with 7,000 locations served by ten miniload cranes, increasing the total capacity to 10,000 locations and 16 miniload cranes. The storage and shipping capacity has increased from 300 to 1,000 cartons per hour. The existing pusher sorters have been replaced by POSISORTERs sliding shoe sorter. A new pallet conveying system retrieves stacks of boards, the base material for the production of furniture. After receiving, these stacks are checked and stored inside a rack-supported building with 5,500 storage locations served by three pallet cranes. The transportation from the AS/RS to the production areas is executed by Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV). Vanderlande Industries also supplied the VISION Warehouse management system (WMS).
“We are very satisfied with the way the project was handled, because the complete changeover was executed without any loss of production!"
Mr Aldo Peroni, Logistics Manager
